Volcanoes, glaciers, lakes, nature reserves, mountain ranges, rivers, fauna and flora, Aboriginal remains, all of them have an important value for biodiversity and culture in the mainland.
Ecuador has a protected area of over 4 million acres, equivalent to 16% of the country territory. One of the most important area of the country and which accounts 16.7% of the protected area is the Galapagos Islands.
